Safety & wellbeing

Prioritizing student wellbeing

The safety and wellbeing of our students is primordial to all of us at École Jeannine Manuel. Alongside concrete security measures that protect and look after our students while they are on campus, our school also puts in place policies and programs that ensure their physical and mental wellbeing.

A dedicated wellbeing program

The school offers a unique wellbeing program as part of its curriculum. Our younger students (Kindergarten to 3rd grade) take part in the Social and Emotional learning program, which focuses on themes such as “being oneself”, “being and having a friend”, or “solidarity”. From 4th grade, our students follow a wellbeing program based on the work of Ilona Boniwell, a world-renowned expert in the field of positive psychology. Students focus on themes such as emotional resilience, or developing effective coping mechanisms when dealing with stress or conflict. In 1ère and Terminale, our students can take part in mindfulness or meditation workshops.

Specific child protection policies

Our CIS and NEASC accreditations also serve as a guarantee that the school adopts rigorous standards with regards to its child protection policies.  The school equally adopts a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and discrimination and has specific policies addressing these potential issues. Our staff is trained in recognizing such incidents if they occur and in appropriately responding to them.

A safe campus

Most of our school sites have a dedicated campus security team that supervises all points of entry to our sites. They enforce the school’s entry regulations and ensure that no unauthorized individuals enter the campus. All of our staff and personnel carry individual identity badges that are checked at all points of entry.
Our status as a CIS and NEASC accredited school means that we have further mandatory security measures in place. Our Lockdown and Lockout drills and procedures provide a means for teachers and staff to protect students during times of emergency or crisis. Students participate in regular emergency drills and are consequently well-prepared to deal with such situations should they arise.
